In the early 1990s, a new form of music was starting to take shape in the clubs of Chicago. A style of house music that was influenced by jazz and soul, with deeper bass lines and more obscure samples, it came to be known as “deep house.” Unlike the harder-edged styles of house that had come before it, deep house was more about creating a feeling of relaxation and introspection. It was perfect for the morning after a long night of dancing, and soon it became known as “the sound of summer.”
