East L.A. in the early 90s was a place where different worlds collided. On one hand, you had the glamour and glitz of Hollywood; on the other, you had the grit and grime of gangsta’ rap. The War on Drugs was in full swing, and young Angelenos were being simultaneously celebrated and vilified on the national stage. It was a time of great turmoil and change, and it left a lasting impression on the city’s culture and identity.
