Mexico Sends Firefighters to Aid California in Battling Devastating Wildfires

MEXICO CITY, Jan 11 (Reuters) – Mexico dispatched a team of firefighters to California to assist in combating the destructive wildfires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles.

“The humanitarian aid group is heading to Los Angeles, California,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on X, sharing photos of firefighters holding the flags of Mexico and California. The team was pictured standing on the runway in front of two planes, ready for deployment.

“We are a nation of generosity and solidarity,” Sheinbaum added.

Since Tuesday, six simultaneous wildfires have swept through Los Angeles County, claiming at least 11 lives and destroying or damaging 10,000 structures. Officials fear the toll will rise as firefighters conduct house-to-house searches in affected neighborhoods.

California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed gratitude in a message on X, following the announcement of the deployment.

“California deeply appreciates President Sheinbaum’s support as we work to suppress the Los Angeles wildfires,” Newsom wrote.

The fires have left a trail of devastation, including in Pacific Palisades, where before-and-after footage underscores the extent of the destruction.
